From ground zero, If you decides to go Pro, you could get the flight time, typically required by large operator, or between 1000 and 1500 Hrs of Pilot In Command time, in 2 to 3 years. For this to happen, becoming a helicopter instructor is the best route. It will help you acquire the necessary experiences. The Commercial Pilot Certification Course will require a minimum of 150 Hrs of aeronautical experience that consists of a least : .
- A. Dual : 30 Hrs on the Commercial Pilot Areas of operations that include at least --
- (1) 5 Hrs of instrument training (if already rated in category, this requirement may be waved)
- (2) 1 cross-country of 2 Hrs duration in a helicopter in day-VFR conditions
- (3) 1 cross-country of 2 Hrs duration in a helicopter in night-VFR conditions, and
- (4) 3 Hrs of flight training in a helicopter within the preceding 60 days prior to the practical test
- B. Solo : 10 Hrs in a helicopter on the Commercial Pilot areas of opearations that include at least --
- (1) 1 cross-country, and
- (2) 5 Hrs in night VFR conditions that include 10 takeoffs and 10 landings at a controlled airport
The ground time needed is 30 Hrs.
Weather and resources permitting, a dedicated Student (starting from ground zero) will become Commercially Certified in about 8 to 10 months.
