Instrument Rating in the R22/R44
Become an Instrument Rated Pilot
Most companies, ranging from Emergency Medical Services (EMS), to operators in the Gulf of Mexico, will require all their pilots to be instrument rated. Actually, most flight schools, when hiring, will favor Certified Flight Instrument Instructors (CFII). In order to meet this need, Florida Helicopter's Instructors are CFIIs. The R22 Beta II is equipped with the latest avionics and instrumentation, such as a Garmin 430 WAAS GPS. The R44 Raven I, is equiped with a Garmin 430. Please note that these are Instrument Trainers, and we will train under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) only. You must hold,at least,a Private Pilot Certifictate and a valid 3rd Class Medical
The Initial Instrument Rating will require a minimum of 40Hrs of aeronautical experience that consists of a least :
- a. 3 Hrs of instrument training were within the preceding 60 days prior to the practical test, and
- b. 1 IFR cross-country flight of more than 100 nm in the aircraft rating sought
The ground time required will be 30 Hrs.
Also, you must comply with Federal Aviation Regulations pertinent to Robinson helicopters.
Weather and resources permitting, a dedicated student, will be Instrument rated in about 3 months
